Now onto the News, Rumors, and Commentary…

“Just the way that he tries to attack people and he is one of those guys that plays every play like it’s his last play that he is ever going to play and those are some of the most fun players to watch as a fan or when you are in the stands. They understand their value and I think that’s kind of the role of the tight end, in general, is to be one of those guys that do their [part], who is just going to do their job. I think one of the cornerstones of our offense is to play fast and physical, and I thought in Week 1, we came out and did that from the very first play of the game. I was really pleased and proud of those guys in week one for being assignment sound, for being able to be trusted.”

“I think he’s a very good leader. I think Merlin is a good leader. That’s what it’s about and I think that’s the kind of player that I want him to be and I think he’s that player and I think ultimately you want all of them to be that same guy. Are you going to be that guy every week to do your job and still make plays? That’s what matters, right? And how do you bring your other teammates along with you? I think he does a good job of that.”

“Last year, UNLV allowed the most rushing yards per game (255) in the Mountain West. However, the 2021 Rebels held Eastern Washington to just 102 yards rushing last week in a game that needed two overtimes. In 2019, he led all Mountain West tailbacks in rushing yards, and was at the top of all UNLV rushing stats last season. Coming off a Week 1 loss, UNLV (0-1) comes to Tempe on Saturday night for its first of two Power-Five matchups this season.”

” “I just want to get better each week,” Claiborne rationalized. “Everybody misses Jermayne,” Matus said. “Omarr in the middle, he’s a wrecking ball,” Matus mentioned. “We just have to be gap sound,” linebackers coach Chris Claiborne said.”

” “I feel like going forward; we’re going to be throwing the ball a little bit more than we did last week just because our run game was clicking, so we just continued with that,” Pearsall told reporters. “We’ve gotta eliminate those penalties and be a lot cleaner when we’re out there,” said Pearsall. “One of the cornerstones of our offense is to play fast and physical. “He was someone who was well-prepared.”
