Now onto the News, Rumors, and Commentary…
“I want to be the best guy, but we’ve got to have the best guy on the field, and we need to know these things so our offense can operate.’” While Finley clearly wants to be QB1 for Auburn football, he has also acknowledged that he has work to do to improve his game and that at the end of the day, the best guy for the job is going to be the one that hits the field come fall. However, the new additions to the QB room are hot on his heels, and according to AL.com, Bryan Harsin noted that Finley is emerging as a leader for his teammates rather than being angry about the competition: “He knows that position needs to play well for our offense to be successful, and for our team,” Harsin said. For a long time, it seemed as though TJ Finley was the obvious answer as to who would take the reins of Auburn football’s offense as the QB with the most experience actually playing with the offense. We want to put the best guy out there.”
“According to fellow FanSided site Autzen Zoo, Dillingham plans to implement an offense similar to that of former Auburn football head coach Gus Malzahn: The system itself is a descendent of the Gus Malzahn offense. Nix revealed that one of his top reasons for choosing to make the move to Oregon was to reunite with and play for his freshman year offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham. Gus Malzahn’s offense was not always highly-favored by the fans of Auburn football, but perhaps Dillingham will find a way to make it successful with the Oregon Ducks. While Nix was definitely pushed outside of his comfort zone in his one year under the coaching of Bryan Harsin and Mike Bobo, Dillingham’s Malzahn-based system at Oregon will likely be far more appealing to the former Auburn QB.”
“He is also the first of the Langston Hughes players to commit that Auburn is after in this cycle. Now after a successful spring of getting recruits on campus, Love is the first to commit to Auburn and get the ball rolling there. A commitment from Love could begin the domino effect for Auburn with the rest of the Langston Hughes players. He was the top safety target for Auburn, a spot where Auburn is a little thin already, and he also is the first domino to fall as Auburn looks to build up some momentum in the recruiting cycle.”
